The “lead” knuckles were made for a makers challenge called prop a week. you get a week to brainstorm, design, and make a prop in a week based off of a prompt you receive at the start of the week.
The prompt was Golden. the creative team I was working with came up with a Robbin hood like story where people steal from the rich. Instead of giving the gold to the pour, they transmute the gold into lead to make weapons to fight the rich. It’s a silly story but a fun one. From there we decided to make a “brass” knuckle out of “lead”.
Prop a week: Golden
Materials
Cardboard
Marker tips
Paper mache clay
Paint
The base of the lead knuckles is made of cardboard. it is covered in something I call paper mache clay. It’s a mixture of drywall compound, glue, toilet paper, along with a few other materials. Once the paper mache clay is dry, it is sanded smooth. From there the prop is painted and aged.
On top I commandeered a few dried out maker tips. once they were cleaned out they were wrapped in a small chain to hint back to gold jewelry needed to make this device. Once everything is painted it looks remarkably similar to metal. Though, because of it’s light weight, the illusion is lost as soon as it is picked up.
